Titanium Grades 2 and 7
Titanium Grade 2 (Commercially Pure Titanium)
Titanium Grade 2 is one of the most widely used forms of commercially pure titanium, offering an excellent balance of corrosion resistance, strength, and workability.
Chemical Composition: Approximately 99.2% high-purity titanium, with small amounts of oxygen, iron, and nitrogen.
Key Features:
- Outstanding corrosion resistance in marine and chemical environments
- Lighter than steel, reducing overall system weight
- Moderate tensile strength compared to other pure titanium grades
- Good formability, weldability, and machinability
Typical Applications:
- Corrosion-resistant linings and coatings for steel equipment
- Manufacturing of tanks, vessels, and pipelines for corrosive fluids
- Combined with stainless steel to enhance corrosion resistance and lower weight
- Components requiring moderate strength with high durability in harsh conditions
Titanium Grade 7
Titanium Grade 7 shares many properties with Grade 2 but includes a small amount of palladium (0.12–0.25%), giving it superior resistance to more aggressive environments.
Key Features:
- Enhanced corrosion resistance, especially in acidic and chlorinated conditions
- Excellent resistance to pitting, crevice, and stress corrosion
- Maintains high workability and weldability
Typical Applications:
- Ideal for extremely corrosive environments in chemical, petrochemical, and marine industries
- Protective linings and coatings for equipment handling acids and harsh chemicals
- Increases the lifespan and durability of steel equipment in aggressive conditions
- Preferred over Grade 2 where maximum corrosion resistance is required
